Tour Details

After breakfast at your hotel in Fes, you will be picked up by your driver for a 1.5-hour drive to Meknes, a city known for its royal history and impressive architecture. Upon arrival, you’ll begin your exploration of the city with a visit to the Bab Mansour Gate, one of the grandest and most famous gates in Morocco. Its intricate design and size make it an iconic symbol of the city.

Next, you will explore the Meknes Medina, a labyrinth of narrow streets, bustling souks, and charming squares. You’ll visit the Place El Hedim, a large open square that serves as the city’s heart and is often compared to the famous Jemaa el-Fna Square in Marrakech. Here, you’ll have the chance to stroll through the vibrant souks, where you can shop for local crafts and products.

Another highlight of Meknes is the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, which is dedicated to the city’s founder and one of Morocco’s most important sultans. You’ll also visit the Royal Stables, a massive structure built to house thousands of horses, showcasing the grandeur of the city’s past.

After exploring Meknes, continue your journey to Volubilis, which is just a 30-minute drive away. Volubilis was a Roman city and is one of the best-preserved archaeological sites in Morocco. As you wander through the ancient ruins, you’ll marvel at the stunning mosaics, which depict scenes from Roman mythology, daily life, and historical events.

You’ll have time to explore the Roman baths, the Basilica, and the Triumphal Arch, and you’ll gain insight into the life and culture of the Roman Empire through your guide’s explanation. The well-preserved ruins, set against the backdrop of the rolling hills of the Middle Atlas Mountains, make for a truly memorable experience.

After visiting Volubilis, you’ll have the opportunity to relax and enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch at a nearby restaurant before making your way back to Fes. You’ll arrive in Fes in the late afternoon or early evening.
